Our FFL
You can (and should) verify the validity of any FFL by using the ATF EZ-Check system prior to sending your firearms to totally unknown people or businesses.
Can I use abbreviations for my trust name during engraving?
If your trust is already established and your Form 1 has been submitted, you’re pretty much stuck with whatever name you used on the Form 1. If you’re in the process of setting up a new trust, shorter names are always better than longer ones. Whatever your trust name is, the entire name has to be engraved on every NFA item you make.
What if my lower receiver is marked 'MULTI' for caliber?
If your lower is marked with ‘MULTI’, the caliber must be visible somewhere on your fully assembled SBR, such as on the barrel. If it’s not on the barrel, it’s recommended you add it to the lower.
Can I send an 80% lower for engraving?
Yes, you can. However, remember that you’ll need to have the name/trust name, city, state, caliber, model, and serial number engraved on it, as per the information you provide on your Form 1. Please contact us prior to sending a polymer or 3D printed frame.
Will the engraving process damage the finish of my lower?
No, the engraving process won’t cause any damage to the aluminum finish of your lower. You can have it refinished before or after the engraving. However, if you’re planning to have it refinished after engraving, make sure the engraving will withstand bead blasting and recoating. We always engrave deeper than the minimum requirements to make sure you’re still good to go if you have the receiver coated or refinished.
Can I use a Dremel tool for engraving?
Seriously though, why can't I just use a Dremel and engrave it myself?
Well, well, well, a Dremel tool you say? What an innovative idea for engraving your lower receiver! It’s almost as if professional engravers and precision machinery are overrated. Who needs them, right?
Pull up a chair, let me paint you a picture. Imagine, it’s a fine Saturday afternoon. You, in your garage armed with your trusty Dremel tool, about to embark on the delicate task of engraving. What could possibly go wrong?
Here’s a fun fact: Engraving requires a steady hand, precision, and above all, patience. But hey, why bother when you can turn your lower receiver into a modern art masterpiece with just a Dremel tool? I mean, who doesn’t appreciate a few extra lines or curves here and there?
And don’t worry about the ATF, I’m sure they’ll understand. After all, aren’t all great artists misunderstood in their times?
Now, if you’re still set on this path, I wish you the best of luck. Just remember, every Picasso started with a blank canvas. Or in this case, a well-intentioned lower receiver.
In all seriousness though, engraving your lower receiver is a precise task best left to professionals. A misstep can lead to complications that might be difficult, or even impossible, to correct. You just dropped $200 on a stupid tax stamp, so think twice before you pick up that Dremel tool to save a few bucks.
Can I engrave anywhere on the firearm?
Absolutely! You can engrave it on the inside, under the grip, or even inside the barrel if you fancy. But if you want it to be legal and all that boring stuff, it should be in a conspicuous place where it can be easily read.
Can I fill the engraving with color?
Why not? Go ahead and turn your firearm into a rainbow unicorn. Just make sure you don’t turn your legal information into an unreadable mess.
What happens if I make a mistake during engraving?
Nothing much, just the potential ruin of your lower receiver. (and lose the extra $200 tax you paid) But hey, everyone loves a good ‘oops’ story, right?
On the other hand, if we make a mistake, you’ll get a brand new lower.
